The wilderness area that comprises most of my stomping grounds is a vast expanse of land. Refurd to
in Santa Barbara as the Front Country. It includes all of the mountain areas on the south slops of the San Yanez
Mountain rang that lies West of the city of SB. Approximately 50 miles by 20 miles or so. Much of it, 80 or
90%, lies within the San Padres National Forest. There is also three deferent state parks with well developed campgrounds.
El Capatan, Refugeo, Gaveota State beaches. Also a large County Park and camping grounds with a big lake. Lake Chachuma,
The water reserver for the inter South SB County. In addition much of low plato right above the sea cliffs was ones
very productively cultivated agriculture land. However a few 10 or so years ago the County terned the water supply
of on all the farms in order to support a growing population in the urban area of S B. Much of that land is now in limbo.
Abandoned by the owners but not yet acquired by the county. The area that I have Identified as being Nowharesville
was ones known as Ellwood Shores it included a well developed campgrounds.
Tthe rocky bridge in picture was at one time a rather large cave on Goleta beach. The beach is next to UCSB.
Back in the 60s it is where a lot of the movie "Gegget Gos to Hawaii" was filmed. The cave is where the Betneck bar was in
in the movie that was supposedly on Waikiki Beach Hawaii. Any one who has seen the move and just happen upon Goleta Beach
by chance often feels as thou they have been there before but can remember whine. Although my photo dos not show the Chanel
Islands and distinctive palm trees of the beach that the move is known for you must have visited it scents the roof has collapsed
shortly after the filming. The beach has really small waves that the dolphins like to "play" in. I spend much time there looking
out just passed the waves watching the many sea mammals and birds most days. Before going to the library at UCSB.
On most days there are plenty of dolphins just past the waves where the grounuin fish habitat is at. Some
times there are a lot of dolphins or swimming back and forth jumping out of the water getting big breathes of air so
they can stay under longer. At thus times they are very excited and make laud vocal noises. Sounding like loud chirping over
a loud spacer turned all the way up. At other times the dolphins just kind of skim along in a leashrly manner spending almost
as much time out of the water as they do under the water just beyond the braking waves. Occasionally they are in a hurry to
get up or down the cast at thus times they travel much faster than a speeding mooter boat. Coming only have way out
of the water just to catch their breath. There is also a artefactual reath a 1/10th of a mile of shore that is a
habitat for some kind of larger fish along with baloney and crabs. The dolphins also enjoy the very tasty lobsters that migrate
around the deferant reefs close by.
